AT&T case against Verizon “There’s a map for that” ad was rejected by a Federal Judge in Atlanta Wednesday. AT&T claims the ad was misleading, but at this point does it matter? The damage is done. Yes, the can fight it in court, win and maybe get a monitory judgment, but will that make difference for the consumer, probably not. While the lawyers fight it out, the marketing staff at AT&T need to get a response and quick.

Today, AT&T came out with their counter, not as strong because it talks about smartphones and app – which refer to one product – the iPhone, but at least they are trying to answer the map add.
Might, I suggest AT&T look at the user contract and cancellation policies of Verizon. I think AT&T should talk to customer through the pocketsbooks – offer a one year contract – lower termination fees – get clients in the doors, then you can talk about how good your coverage is and how 3G is a small part of the complete wireless network.

Here is AT&T new ad with Luke Wilson sidebyside

Just my thoughts!

March on Washington – it that the only thing people can come up with when it comes to getting the attention of those is Washington.

Has everyone forgotten the economy just hit bottom, we hope and the recovery for most Americans is still yet to come. So how does former labor secretary Robert Reich expect us all to get a flight to Washington DC to to march about health care – September 13, 2009 is less then a month away.

The same goes for Cleve Jones and his LGBT march on Washington, which is set for October 10-11. In this case Congress is not even in session – they are break for Columbus Day!

I think both of these movements would be better served if the learned how to use social media and created a virtual type march.

1. A virtual type protest/march is much more cost effective for everyone involved.
2. Many more people could take part in a virtual protest.
3. Jointheimpact.org showed us how effective organizing virtually can be.
4 protesting locally, in multiple locations, show just how expansive the issue is.

I guess I’m just over this whole idea of having to pack myself up and go to Washington DC to get heard. I ‘m betting utilizing social media, I can get heard just as clearly from my laptop. The best part is my congressional member will respond to the email.

The SEC and CBS who have a new policy about social media.

“Ticketed fans can’t “produce or disseminate (or aid in producing or disseminating) any material or information about the Event, including, but not limited to, any account, description, picture, video, audio, reproduction or other information concerning the Event.”

Basically, the SEC is saying because CBS has paid us $3 Billion dollars for coverage of the conference over the next 15 years, no one can Twitter, Facebook, Youtube or flicker anything related to their events.

Talk about unrealistic and self defeating. Social media is about communication and engagement, isn’t that what the SEC and CBS want? They want to communicate they have the best conference in college sports and engage people to watch those events.

Does the SEC, thing that if someone tweets about the game I’m less likely to watch it? Maybe, just maybe if it’s a great game I might actually tune in, but with out twitter or facebook I not going to know anything about the game, because I live in PAC-10 territory.

Does CBS think someone in the stands with their iPhone is going to get a better photo or video of an event then the 30 -40 television cameras around the stadium? Yes, I want to see the amazing catch taken from a video phone 40 rows back as opposed to the sideline multiple angels CBS gets.

Both the SEC and especially CBS need to learn to embrace social media and use it as engagement with their fans. Because in 15 years, Social media will be far more advanced then it is today and CBS maybe less relevant if they don’t shift their thinking. Just remember what Print media is dealing with today – Television could be dealing with the same issues in years if not months.
